We tried using both the FAT16 and native universal disk format (UDF) options for the DVD-RAM and got a slightly higher data transfer rate with FAT16 - about 48MB/min against 35MB/min. gho file created took up just over 800MB (higher compression is available but makes cloning slower). We selected a 17GB FAT32 disk with a single partition containing 1.3GB of data to image onto a 2.6GB DVD-RAM drive. We tried imaging to a DVD-RAM drive and didn’t have any hassles. Removable media drives are also suitable destinations or sources, so you can use a variety of media, including LS-120, Jaz, Zip, CD-RW or even a floppy to store an image (which can be “spanned” across disks). Version 9.0s predecessor, Norton Ghost 2003, forced you to reboot and load DOS before running a backup, a clunky design that made Windows inaccessible until the backup was complete. You can image drives or partitions from peer to peer by parallel port connection or NetBIOS, and from partition to partition or drive to drive within a single PC. Once you get the hang of it, Ghost Personal edition isn’t hard to use.
